Organizations develop distinct "cultures" that are the sum of their past and present attitudes, strategies, decisions, etc. In other words, an organization's culture is the sum of everything that has made the organization what it is today. Given the rapid pace of change in which most organizations exist, there is often a strong need for a culture to change in order to provide for future success. If any of the following statements describe your organization, a culture change initiative may well be in order:

  • Your products or services face possible extinction due to the possible emergence of "disruptive" innovations.
  • The competitive environment in which your organization has operated is drastically changing.
  • External or regulatory changes are forcing your organization to adapt to new rules.
  • Your customer base is either quickly evaporating or you have noticed a trend toward its gradual dwindling.
  • The organization faces pressure to report on or "prove" its success to the Board of Directors or to an external constituency.
  • New competitors who offer some or all of your organization's products or services are beginning to crop up.
